This mini-workshop will focus on the physics and technology of laser-assisted stripping of H- beams for use in high-power proton accelerators.  Recent theoretical and experimental work suggests that lasers may be employed in the stripping of H- beams that is required for multi-turn charge-exchange injection in high power proton facilities.  Laser-stripping methods hold the promise of eliminating limitations associated with conventional stripping foils, namely short foil lifetime at high beam powers, radio-activation of nearby accelerator components, beam loss associated with multiple foil traversals, and complications associated with foil inefficiency.

 

 

 The aim of this mini-workshop is to bring together experts in laser-particle beam interactions, laser-stripping theory and modeling, high power lasers and laser beam optics to assess the remaining R&D required to establish realistic laser-stripping system designs for use in existing and future high-power proton accelerators.
